As you may know, we’re on our way to Lapland in aid of Birmingham Children’s Hospital! The aim is for our team to collectively walk the equivalent amount of steps it takes to travel from London to Lapland, all with the focus of raising money to deliver Christmas magic to the children.
Since the 23rd of November, we’ve passed Brussels and Amsterdam, and have now made our way through Berlin, Warsaw, and Vilnius! That’s a total of 1070 miles! Yes our legs are aching, but we aren’t stopping.
Third Milestone – Berlin
The capital of the Federal Republic of Germany, and one of the most picturesque places to be at Christmas time. The home of the German Christmas market – we’re in our element here. Although, with a population of 3.5 million people, it’s slightly different from our local Birmingham version.
In fact, Berlin’s transport system travels the equivalent of 8.7 times around the world every single day. Wow, that puts our steps into perspective.
Fourth Milestone – Warsaw
Prying us away from market stalls and hot dogs, we eventually made our way to Warsaw, Poland! It’s getting colder and we’re definitely getting closer to our destination.
Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980, Warsaw is known for its historic city centre and picturesque Old Town. A palace of culture and science, we wish we were stopping longer! But no time to waste when there’re milestones to hit.
Fifth Milestone – Vilnius
It’s definitely getting chillier now, that’s a good sign! As we’re currently in Vilnius, we couldn’t help but brush up on some history. Vilnius declared itself capital of a sovereign Lithuania in March 1990, but it was not until August 1991 that Moscow finally relented and recognised Lithuania as an independent country!
Only 180 miles to go until our next stop at Riga – wish us luck.
How can you help?
We want to raise as much money as possible and spread some Christmas cheer to the much deserving kids of Birmingham Children’s Hospital – but we need your help!
