We’re halfway through our quest to raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital! Only 624 miles to go – yelp. Not long until the Gloss team have walked a total of 5,438,958 steps and reached our final destination, Lapland!
Sixth Milestone – Riga
Touchdown in Riga, yes we’re still going! Such a beautiful city, we had to take a moment to explore.
Set on the Baltic Sea at the mouth of the River Daugava is Riga, Latvia’s capital. It’s considered a cultural centre and is home to many museums, beautiful wooden buildings, art nouveau architecture and medieval Old Town. The pedestrian-only Old Town has many shops and restaurants and is home to busy Livu Square, with bars and nightclubs – we wish we could stop for longer, but we have steps to do!
Seventh Milestone – Tallinn
Hello people of Estonia! With a population of over 450,000, you can imagine how hard it is for our growing group to get around! Situated on the northern coast of the country, on the shore of the Gulf of Finland, Tallinn’s Old Town is one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Eighth Milestone – Helsinki
We’re finally in Finland – can we get a round of applause! We can almost spot Santa’s sleigh in the distance, just 624 miles to go – but nope, we’re not tired yet.
The Capital of Finland and the centre of the Helsinki Region, a functional urban region of about 1,48 million inhabitants and 767.000 jobs. The population of Helsinki is becoming more international by the year with over 15% speaking a language other than Finnish or Swedish as their mother tongue.
